I N S P I R A T I O N S


Our most recent project brief involved creating textile samples to present to woven design studio Dash+Miller, Rodarte's creations formed an integral reference point for the collection of fabrics I produced - it's been great to have an excuse to muse over the Mulleavy sisters' ingenious designs for the last nine weeks! Here are some of my favourite examples of their work...

Deconstructionist designs inspired by the art works + photography of Gordon Matta-Clark + Ari Marcopoulos. Overlapping + interlocking loopy yarn, fringed wool, silver lamé, hand-marbled leather, chiffon, metallic linen.

Romantic designs inspired by the night-shift factory workers in Juarez, Texas and the idea of dressing whilst sleepwalking.
Quilted wrap jackets, lace, crochet, strips of fabric, fringing, gingham skirts, layering sheer lace, sweet florals, burnt out velvet, plaid, fur-trims, twisting strands.

Ethereal designs inspired by Japanese horror films + Kabuki theatre. Sparkly chiffon, shaggy, textured gossamer, shredded yarn, twisting, winding, spinning fabric.

Rendered designs inspired by Northern California + Seventies Suburbia. Wood paneling, redwoods, stamped leather, wood-grain, sliced, pleated, lace, tucks and tiers, whipstitched squares, burnished gold leather, pyrite, carving.

Nomadic designs inspired by Death Valley and the California condor. Primitivism meets futurism. Knitwear, printing, draping, pastiche, aged, painted, burned, shredded, sandpapered, destructing materials. Scraps of plaid, plastic, cheesecloth, wool cobweb, crystals, macramé, leather.
